Trouble re-anchoring when making a rigid joint

Anonymous

I was helped joining two pillars to a plane.  I was able to repeat what was shown.  Now I am trying to repeat it on my real project, and I am having trouble.  I have joined the pillar base with the handle, and now I have raised it up ready to re-anchor to the tops of the pillars.  I tried to click on the top of a pillar, and it is not working.

I appreciate your help.

It looks like you joined the part to the pillars.  How did you do that?

@Anonymous First you should  remove your previous (as-built joint ) then put (joint origin) on your handle and use (joint) between the two parts as shown in screenshots1.png2.png3.png4.PNG

Thank you Ahmed.  There is something that I am not getting.  I attempt to make a rigid joint by clicking on the handle and the base and then offsetting - raising up the handle off the base and clicking on the top of the pillar.  I cannot get it to click on the pillar.  If I then click OK, the handle goes back to sticking on the base.

I appreciate your help.

@Anonymous

Sorry but why did  you select the base if you want to join handle with pillar (I think) like screenshot above ??

all you need  just putting joint origin on first part (top of pillar ) and another one on second part (handle) and joint these origin together

Thanks Ahmed.

The reason that I am going forward like this is from help from a former expert, Paul Clauss (see Can two joints be created at the same time).

The reason that I am not just clicking on the pillar and the handle is that that only makes one joint.

What am I missing?

Ahmed,

This looks like it will work for me; I am following your method instead of trying to continue with the old method.  I am very appreciative.  I would say that I am barely above the beginner level, so I do have a couple of questions so that I can understand what you did:

1. The timeline indicates that you have formed a group.  I have not done that.  I looked online and have not found how you did that.  How did you do that?

2. After the timeline icon for forming a group, there is an icon labeled "position 1".  I don't believe I have seen that icon or used that method, and it does not look like the "move" symbol.  How did you do that, and what is it for?

3. You created sketch 8 and then there is that "position 2" in the timeline.  What did you use for the basis of the line (how exactly did you do that; I understand the basic line command).

4. Same question for sketch 9.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Ahmed, we are making progress!  I followed you up to the point were you said, "...and to control my symmetry, I create a sketch...", and you chose the create line control.  Then something else happened:

1. You got a wedge instead of a line.

2. Then, you clicked on the far pillar and got a red line.

What else did you do during this period?

I really appreciate your help.

@Anonymous

1- I just create a line from the  center of pillar crossing handle (on top view ),

I do that to  specify the point which I should put the origin joint in to keep my bodies in symmetry (line is just reference).

2- About creating line >> when you start to create a line you should pick (a plan )so I pick the top of pillar and go to 3d view put join origin on handle then move it in bottom view  (the red line I didn't sketch it ,fusion show it as a projection to handle line ( I think that )) and it's not Important .

Ahmed!  We are making progress (I should say that I am making progress- you already know how to do this!).

I was able to follow your directions and get the handle on top of the pillars!  Great!

Now I have another question:  The handle is made of a regular hexagon; all sides are equal.  You went to the bottom of the handle, but I thought, because the sides are equal, that I would make the joint origin on the top of the handle instead of going to the bottom.  When I made the joint the handle did not flip over and join to the pillars; the pillar went through the handle and attached to the top.  Why?

*****I repeated it doing it the way you did, and it worked!  *****

As always, Ahmed, I appreciate your help!

I am so glad that you can do it 🙂

According to  flipping .. yes if you put origin on top, the handle will cross with pillar because fusion choose the easiest way  of flipping to attach origins together ,so when you put the origin on top > handle won't flipped 360* while it can go directly without  flipping.

(This explanation by experience not from source )
