Trouble making ANSI 3TPI 6" Buttress Threads

I am trying to add threads to the inner part of a lid. It needs to be 6" in diameter with 3 threads per inch. I am basically trying to create this lid in Fusion 360: http://www.plastic-mart.com/tech_drawings/ace_lid_13696.pdf

I cannot seem to get the thread tool to do this though. It will automatically adjust the diameter when I select a preset, and I cannot seem to make the diameter 6" as it needs to be.

I think I will need to make a custom thread definition in the ThreadData folder, but I am not sure how to format this XML in a way to achieve a buttress thread with 6" nominal diameter and 3 TPI.

Is this something the thread tool can do or do I need to use some other method to make the threads?

Thanks!

You could manually model the threads using one of the tips in the below screencast.

There are limited number of profiles that can be generated by editing the thread XML file. I'm not sure if you've seen the below link or not, but it details how the XML file is setup.

I hope this helps!

Thanks,

I unfortunately had to manually draw my 6" 3tpi threads.  Are you needing the same threads?

I am. I need to fix a cap on a wan=ter tank as the thread is crossed.

I am very new at #D printing and was hoping this was going be an easy project.

Thank you
