Trim tool wants to trim whole line

Hi, Im making a 2D guitar headstock design and trying to trim the curve in red but only where it extends into the circle. when I hover over the part it extends to the whole curve and doesnt register that the line is intersecting with the circle I made. the orginal design was from another headstock i made in fusion and imported as a DXF would that be the reason why it is doing that since i didnt make it from scratch?

Hi

It's hard to judge this without the file, but in practice you don't need to trim it - Fusion will recognize closed areas for extrusion.
