Not only do you have to enable that option as shown in your screencast, but you'll also have to enable that option when downloading the image. Only PNG and TIFF file formats define transparency for pixels.

Darned, you are right!

@paul.clauss here's a bug.

 

So here is one workaround.

  • Disable the ground plane in the screen setup before rendering.
  • Also set the background to "solid color"

Then your objects will be rendered in front of a single colored backplane.

 

Once rendered, you can use any image editor - I use Pixelmator below - to change that color to be transparent. YMMV.

Actually, if you download the image in TIFF format it works properly

Hi @TrippyLighting @admaiora

 

Thanks for posting! This one is a known issue, logged internally as FUS-39686. We came across it in this thread

 

I've found that sometimes PNG format or TIFF will work for the transparent background, but which one actually gives the transparent background seems to vary by file. I also think @TrippyLighting has a pretty good workaround here. 

 

I'm happy to keep you posted with any progress from the development team on this!
