Transfer a Project from One Autodesk Account to Another

How do you transfer an Autodesk project from one account to another? I have tried downloading the data files via A360, but all I get are empty file folders.

I found a way to do it... Save each design as an .f3d archive, and upload them to the new account/project.

Hi @Anonymous,

Another (perhaps quicker) workaround that you may want to try is to share your project with the other account. This way the other account will have full access to the project and you won't have to download any files. I went ahead and provided steps below that will detail how to Download your project in case this workaround doesn't work in your scenario. You can share the project in A360 by clicking the invite button at the top-right of the page.

Do you think you post some screenshots showing how you went about this process? I just tried on my computer to download an entire project folder from A360 and it worked successfully, so I'm just curious to see what is really going on. The screenshots below show how I downloaded the files as well as the corresponding .zip that was created. Please note that I moved my file (in your case the whole project contents) into a folder so that I only had to download multiple files/folders. I only went ahead and tested one folder in order to save time, but the same concept should apply. After you click "Download" you should see on the top of the screen an orange bar that says "Compressing." When that bar dissapears this will start your download which you will then be able to open the file. As you can see, a .f3z file was created in the folder that I downloaded.

Hopefully this suggestion worked for you and if so, please feel free to mark this answer as a solution. That way everyone can benefit from this thread as well. If you still have more questions, I will be more than happy to keep helping!

Is there an easier way to do it?

Hi @Anonymous,

Not sure if you saw my suggestion above about sharing the project folder with the other account. You can do this by clicking the "Invite" button in the top-left of your screen on the A360 site. All you have to do is enter the email address of the other account and they will have access to the project.

Hi James,

Thanks for the suggestion. Unfortunately that won't work in my case. I don't want to invite the other person to edit my set of files.

Hi @Anonymous,

Then to my knowledge the only other easier way is to download the project as a .zip file and share it with him. This will be time-consuming though, depending on the size of the project. One way to speed it up that I mentioned above is to put all of the contents that are in your project into one folder. That way you only have to download the one folder instead of individually downloading each file.

Let me know if this suggestion helped or if you would like more clarification,

When you do the downlaod above, which sA360 space are you working in? Project space? Data space?

Here's what I see in the Project space:

Capture4.PNG

Here's what I see in the Data space:

Capture5.PNG

When I choose download, I get a zip file titled download.zip. It only contains folders, no files. Zip file size is only 238 bytes.

Am I doing something wrong?

Hi @Anonymous,

I don't believe you're doing anything wrong. That's very odd that this is happening. Do you mind sharing me to the project so I can try to download it from my end. My email address is james.youmatz@autodesk.com.

Thanks,

Hi @Anonymous,

Unfortunately I can reproduce the same issue. I am not sure what the cause of this is, but I am looking into it. In the meantime it seems as if you are going to have to just create an archive of each file and download them separately. One idea that may speed up this process though. Do you have one file that contains all of the references in it. For example do you have one assembly file that you imported all of your other files into? If so you can archive and download that file and it should contain all of the files in a zip folder.

I will let you know as soon as I have information as to why this is happening.

Thanks,

Hi @Anonymous,

I just wanted to let you know that I looked into this further and it seems that this expected behavior from A360. A360 deliberately blocks downloads of Fusion designs because of distributed designs, which prevent an individual .f3d file from being useful. .

I am sorry, that I did not realize this earlier.

Thanks,

That's interesting. I'm still trying to wrap my head around top-down design. I don't if it's a counter-intuitive process or it's just the way we've done things for so long. In a way, it was similar to the switch from procedural to object-oriented programming.

That said, the odd thing about it, is that it offers you the ability to download the project data, but what you get is a set of empty folders.

Thanks for your help.

Hi Patrick,

Not a problem, glad I could help! I have notified some people about the empty folder issue and I wanted to thank you as well for bringing this to my attention. I learn something new every day! If my previous answer answered all of your questions, feel free to mark that answer as a solution so that others can benefit from this thread as well. If not, let me know, and I'd be more than happy to answer any more questions you have!

Also, on a totally separate note. Very cool project you seem to be working on. I'm glad you shared it with me.

Thanks,

Downloading folders does not work for Fusion 360 data today because Fusion data must be exported. It is possible to get Fusion 360 data, including distributed designs, using export.

Please see the tip I posted here for the steps. I hope this helps.

Yes, I already discovered this, but getting back on topic, I wanted to move an entire project at once.

Thanks.

hi

you say "Moving an entire Project across hubs in in our September update."

how is it done?

or, how to download entire project, and upload to another account?

i found the download button on upper right, i pick 'Fusion 360 Archive'.

But i get a .f3z file, not the f3d file mentioned above.

When i import, i get a non-viewable file.

i cannot find the "i" mentioned here.

thx

Do you have any updates on exporting folders? Downloading still results in empty folders.

Thanks!

Still having the same problem with transferring a project. We need to shift projects with multiple design and many individual parts. It is just not feasible to download or export every part and than upload it again. And if the situation of shifting the project occurs again the whole process starts again.

It also seams like a easy solvable problem...
