Trace function for engraving, heights question

Hey All,

I am using the Trace function to engrave a Sketch on a part. First op is to deck .020 of the part (in some cases to deck off the last engraving op). Then the Sketch is .020 of the top of the part in the model. I am using nominal stock, so I don't want to model in the .020 deck op. I just want to deck off and then test various engravers, speeds feeds, etc.

Being that there is no "bottom height" in the trace function Should I just use an extra -.020 of axial offset?

Is this the easiest way to accomplish my goal of "decking and testing"

Thanks much,

CE

This is a little confusing:

you face the part down .020

then you engrave .020

then you want to clear the engraving by refacing the part down .020 thou

i would create one set up with a facing operation. Then the engraving operation

Create a nc program.   Then run this program.  The reset z and run again.
I would adjust the feeds and speeds manually with the g code processor.
