TIP. Mirror body workaround.

Sometimes you need to mirror a body without creating a copy, this can be done using Scale -1. The scale dialog will not let you enter -1 but you can change it using a parameter. Only drawback is you can only scale aligned to the work axis not a mirror plane.

File's attached.

I've come across this limitation before but not this workaround. Brilliant 😉

The implementation of mirroring bodies and components seems to be doing exactly that, just like a lot of other 3D applications scale it with a factor of -1. Blender does exactly the as well.

As this workaround obviously works, we should have this filed as a bug that should be removed.

@TrippyLighting The reason I tried was because I found it works for dimensions as well. If you have a dimension driven off several parameters there's always a chance you'll get a minus number as an answer and I found the sketch works with minus results. You can't directly enter zero or minus numbers in the dimension dialog but the parameter manager comes to the rescue, can be helpful while experimenting with a design.

Mark as mentioned in my other thread, thank you! This is a huge time saver for me (approx 2hrs programming on approx 40 parts!).

Because I rarely use origin, I was able to create a sketch and a point and use that to scale to. I've noticed that I still do need to confirm all the toolpaths (certain ones have extentions on lead-ins so I need to reverse those) and I've noticed that for some tool orientation Z-axis they are reversed, but it's a simple case of easily changing those few toolpaths. Thanks again!!

This is great. Just needs to be able to be added direct in the scale box, but happy to work wit this method for now. Thanks

Insightful work, Mark.

(I understand the Autodesk strategy now- build a skeleton and leave fleshing out the frame to talented/frustrated users...)
