The midlle mouse button necessary for the Orbit feature?

Hi!

For few years I've been trying to learn the Fusion 360 – with no success. Once or twice a year I open Fusion 360 (for 1-2 hours) to get 'in to it', but every time get frustrated with the mouse functionality. As a Rhino / T-splines / Mac user, moving the object with my mouse in Fusion 360 hasn't been very intuitive. At least not for me. But because there are many Fusion users, I must be doing something terribly wrong with my Fusion mouse functionality (having many Rhino / T-splines documents I more or less have to use Fusion 360. If the usage would be comfortable, then why not more...).

When useing the midlle mouse button to move the object, I often end up zooming the object (not always but quite often). I have the 'Microsoft Comfort mouse 4500' and I have to push the midlle button quite hard – which again doesn't make the use of it very intuitive. Plus I end up zooming the object, when it should move the object. It doesn't do this always but quite often. So the reality in my everyday work (with Fusion 360) is balancing between these two options.

The mouse works well in Rhino / T-Splines (where I hardly ever need the midlle mouse button). I just chose the 'Alias' option in Fusion Preferencies with the same result.

What could be the problem? Is there a way to use 'Pan, Zoom and Orbit' without the midlle mouse button? (like having a 'Rhino' option in addition to Alias, Inventor and Solidworks options?).

Thank's for all the help!

Actually that's what I ment when telling that I just chose the 'Alias' option from preferencies.

But even in Alias option I need the midlle mouse button in the 'orbit' feature.

Every now and then I'm trying Fusion 360, but after few hours I normally get frustrated. The mouse functionality just isn't very intuitive compared to Rhino / T-Splines.

I mean when working with T-Splines in Fusion 360.

The T-Splines object can't be made transparent, and I can't activate several control points from both sides of the object at once (I mean activating 'through' the object, if you need to activate a certain part of the whole object including several points). These two features together would make working with T-Splines a lot faster.

In cases like above I have turn T-Splines object back and fort (all the time) just to activate and handle points from both sides.

Thank's anyway, lichtzeichenanlage!

I too find navigation via the mouse to be frustrating in Fusion. I wish there were an option to apply custom keyboard modifiers + mouse buttons to manipulate the views. For example, in nearly every vector drawing or raster design program on the planet, holding down Shift while clicking and dragging initiates panning. Sadly, not so in Fusion. And no ability to add those types of keyboard modifiers in the preferences. 😞

My preference is to use a 3DConnexion Space Navigator.

Space navigator is propably a good extra thing but it's still an extra thing.

A good program should not be good with a many-sided mouse only.
