text/matching a font

Looking for some recommendations regarding text on a issue that has me at a bit of a roadblock. Im off on a bit of a side track from my normal projects many of you have so graciously helped me with! So Ive been using some of the techniques you all have taught me here and trying to make a stencil for a friend of mine so he can spray paint a logo. Ive used the spline tool/control point to lay out the larger part of the logo and this technique has worked great!

Well as you will see in the file I will attach the bottom part of the logo that reads "BREWING" is in a pretty crisp and straight forward font with kind of a wild west feel to it. I thought in this part that perhaps instead of trying to loosely trace this out that maybe simply finding the font used and using the font tool in fusion and overlaying the exact font overtop what be the best method. However I cant seem to find the exact font. I found something similar I guess and added that font to my system and attempted to add it in however I soon found that it seemed the "BREWING" text in the logo was maybe stretched... So I couldnt make my text I laid over come even close to matching the area used in the logo.

I then thought that maybe I could go this long complicated route and box around the text as a whole and then start "line" it all out.. add constraints and fillets and what ever I need to do to keep things looking crisp and inline with each other. Then go back over and snip out everything between the points that I no longer need.. you'll probably see what I was starting to do. lol!

But just wanted your take as seasoned professionals! Thanks much for all the insight!

Hi,

In the hope that I understand you correctly, I recommend that you create the text in Inkscape, for example, modify it and import in a correct style it as a path within an SVG.

never heard of that. But just watched a minute or so of a demo on inkscape and certainly that looks like a great work around for this!!! Not sure how to get Inkscape... but will look into this. Thanks for that tip Guenther!

Hi,

1. try this download

2. create Text  > edit (stretch) text > convert to path > save as SVG > import into Fusion

inkscape export.gif

There is also this simple online app that takes fonts and creates an SVG file directly but you won't be able to play with it like you can with Inkscape.

I'm certain in many instances that would work perfectly! Note taken! Thank you!

Yes I was just playing with that! I haven't tried to import it into Fusion yet. So would I be correct to assume that once I create it in Inkscape and import it into Fusion I will no long have ability to stretch it wider or taller? So it may take several trys before I actually get it the size needed?

Stretch it as desired in Inkscape and scale it in Fusion to the exact size.

So Ive been trying to import the file from Inkscape into fusion and it abolutely comes onto the screen but its not importing with the font I used in inkscape. Ive tried exporting from Inkscape a couple times and importing again but still with the same result. The font I used was simply called Reward. I had to download it and install onto my computer... so seems to work fine in Inkscape.. Any thoughts on how to get this to work in fusion?

I just tried a couple other fonts that were already on my computer.. saved as SVG and tried to insert them onto my fusion project and those dont show up correctly either. So I dont think the issue is the font but rather something not interpreting the file correctly in fusion.

Hi,

Text created in Inkscape must be converted to a path before saving.

Fonts are usually created for pure text or graphics applications. There are no requirements, as in Fusion, where it is a matter of generating a body from the profile surface.
Most of the time thy have unfavorable paths and overlaps that cause problems.

Not sure what Ive done to the rest of the logo and the svg text I inserted.. but I had everything completed in the main logo so you could see the solid blue shapes within the lines. As I was initially getting going on the svg text and Closing in any errors in the first couple letters all was going good as you all have instructed me over the last few weeks. But for some reason after my computer froze and then I logged back on I now cant seem to get that solid blue fill to know that Ive completed each letter. Can someone steer me to what I did and how to correct it? Thanks

Hi,

I don't know what happened.
I closed various open contours in V-Carve again and reimported them.

Referring back to this as this thread proved very useful however another project Im doing now I had to find a font that was not already on my computer and in Fusion. I found a google font and set up on my laptop however using that font in fusion I'm quickly reminded that there is no path to follow with this and thus cannot add tabs to hold middle drop out parts of certain letters. So, I'm referring to this thread and was reminded about using Inkscape. My new challenge however is that how I'm using the text in Fusion was text along path. So, I may not be able to actually text along path in this instance but is there a way to text along path inside Inkscape, then object to path, then save, then import into fusion? It's possible my path may be wrong and may need to create it a few times in Inkscape until it appears correctly in fusion with the curvature I'm after. Any tips would be great! Thanks again for all this assistance!

This can also be done with Inkscape.

You can change the text along a path in Inkscape, and then simply convert it to a path and export it.

Simply select the path and the string at the same time and hit Put on Path.
