SVG File will not extrude or do anything

Hello Community,

I have imported a SVG file which i've transformed from a pdf file and have imported into fusion for a project, I would like to CNC this artwork later but I need fusion to recognize it as a body which I can potentially push/pull.

I import the SVG directly into an existing sketch and then I get warning signs saying;

I try to find gaps where things are not connected but can't find any, and have seen in other forums a trick to simply draw a line through the middle to find. How do I fix this?

Thank you

Hi,

From the look of it, three rectangles, three circles and a decal you would be better off measuring it and drawing it up

faster than mucking about with importing and scaling an svg. Drawing it would be much more accurate and you

would end up with a much cleaner CNC job.

Cheers

Sorry, I included it last time when uploading I suppose I didn't wait long enough. Here they are.

so you're suggesting I just re-draw the entire thing instead of trying to find a way to make this work?

Thanks for sharing the SVG.  The error that I get indicates that there is some problem with the curve data in that SVG.  The easiest way to try to fix this is to find out where the problem(s) are.  For instance, I just randomly selected a bunch of geometry around the tail, and deleted it.  That fixed the problem with profile recognition.  So, now I know that the problem is likely there.  So, undo, and try selecting less and less geometry until you find the minimum set.  At that point, I will usually just re-create that part of the drawing - usually it is one or two curves.  Sometimes, if you are lucky, you can delete the problem curves, and the result is fine (there are overlapping, duplicate curves)

SVG is notoriously imprecise data - it was intended for visual illustrations, not precise CAD profiles.  So, many tools that generate SVG don't have the level of precision needed for this kind of work.

spending just another 5 minutes, I was able to narrow it down to this section of the tail:

if I delete that set of curves, profiles are again recognized:

I also observed, doing this, that some of the profiles have "leaks" in them.  You can see that the big section of the tail is not recognized (again, SVG is not great profile data).  That is a separate issue, with a separate approach to solve (adding lines to the sketch to narrow down the leak, and repairing it).

OK, more digging that is somewhat in contradiction to my last post.  I found that if I deleted some geometry in the area next to the one above, it fixes everything, without even having to redraw anything.  Had to record a video.  My guess here is that there is a degenerate curve here.  I've seen these before in SVG data.  Usually a spline curve with the same start and end point.  The profile recognition algorithm just doesn't know what to do with degenerate data (the Fusion sketcher will not allow you to create those).  Again, problems with SVG (or, more accurately, with the programs that generate that data).

That siren has it seems lured many to their demise!...Well found.....even after retracing a generated bitmap using Project Salvadore I had non-fixable issues!

Hi,

Apologies. I missed it was the actual decal that was the issue.

Cheers
