Stuck dimensioning cross section of trapezium thread

Hi,

I've modeled a custom trapezium thread. In a drawing I want to give the dimensions of the thread (in particular the thread angle. However, Fusion doesn't let me select the angled line segments in the cross section. For now I've put it in text but I would prefer putting a dimension on it. What am I missing?

I've attached the Fusion 360 file and a pdf of the drawing.

I've attached the fusion 360 file.

I guess the intersection lines are being seen as splines in the drawing. One way would be to enable the visibility of the sketch you used to create the thread in the drawing. Only the normal curves will be displayed not any of the construction lines.

Or create another sketch in you design you can use. You actually get lines in the design workspace for the intersection!

Just tried creating a drawing from your design and I have no problem creating dimensions on the section view. Are you sure your section is exactly along the centreline of the screw?

Hi Mark,

I thought it was exactly in the middle. I've use a centerline and aligned the cross section with that. How did you ensure the cross section is exactly in the middle?

Thanks,

Barry

I used the tracking lines but it's easy for it to start picking up other snaps if you're not careful.

If you're still stuck can you export your 2d drawing as an F3Z file? You'll need to download it from your hub, you can't download 2d drawings from within Fusion.

Edit. Should have been can't download 2d drawings from within Fusion.

Mark

I attached the drawing now. I try to align it as good as possible in the center (as well as from the side line as from a centerline). One time I was able to select one edge.

Need the drawing not the PDF file. You need to log in to your hub and download. Easiest way to find the drawing in your hub is from fusion's data panel.

Ok found the problem, it fails if you use a ISO drawing template! @Phil.E  Can you take a look please?

This is using the ANSI template and you can dimension angles in the section view. Fails with ISO

Sharp! Just checked if it works with ANSI. I created a new drawing based on ANSI standard in stead of ISO (I cannot change the standard of an existing drawing) and now I can indeed dimension the cross section without problem (see picture below). Is this expected behaviour? I would expect that I could also dimension it in ISO...
