Static stress simulation doubts

Hello! I have designed a hook to 3D print that I want to make to hold onto a gym barbell (I actually will print two of them), as you can see in the render attached. I am trying to perform a static stress simulation to test how the hook will deform when the barbell is loaded, but I have a bunch of questions which the few tutorials I found on youtube didn't really solve.

I have tried to constrain the handle of the hook to

"fixed" and then I applied a force load on the part of the hook which will be in contact with the barbell pointing down, to simulate weight added on the barbell. Additionally, I turned on gravity.

While this worked well, I would like to actually see what happens when I load weight on the sides of the barbell instead (i.e. I want to simulate the 2 bodies interacting with each other simultaneously).

I am not sure if I should just try "automatic contacts" and then load the barbell sides and then everything will be calculated, or if instead I should completely change study and do a "quasi-static event simulation" or a "dynamic event simulation".

I want to really study both the deformation on the barbell and hook along with the stresses on both interacting with each other.

Thank you very much!

Hi andratos,

If you just want the "deformation on the barbell and hook along with the stresses" you can continue to use Linear Static Stress and the right type of manual contact. If you could provide the dataset we could take a further look if the model is setup properly.

If you are interested in non-linear materials, acceleration and velocity results involving motion you can look at quasi/dynamic event sim study. Hope this video https://help.autodesk.com/view/fusion360/ENU/courses/AP-EVENT-SIMULATION helps to provide an idea on when and how to use the Event simulation study. There are more videos on youtube. Thanks

Best regards
