Splitting an assembly of parts into parts for 3D print

I have a top-level assembly (a box) that has the lower part, the upper part, the hinges, and the latch all as components brought in from their respective design files. I now need to set up the top and bottom parts of the boxes at a 45 degree angle with respect to ground for 3D printing.

 

I can't just print the original components as modifications were made to both in the assembly, such as cutting the two bodies with the hinge bodies and latch bodies.

 

How do I go about making a version of each part of the box with their required support and sprues without losing connection along the design chain?

 

I do not want to rotate the part in the slicer and leave it to the slicer to add support.

Normally you can Click on the Top Level Assembly, right click and chose Save as Mesh and then choose in the dialog box to get an STL for each part.  Please attach your model so the Forum users can assist. 

 

If you do not know how to attach your Fusion 360 model follow these easy steps. Open the model in Fusion 360, select the File menu, then Export and save as a F3D or F3Z file to your hard drive. Then use the Attachments section, of a forum post, to attach it.

Creating the Assembly in the position you desire is up to you.  When you are read to export the STL files, as I mentioned before, right click on the top level assembly, and choose Save as Mesh.  If there are components you do not want to export, such as the Southco sub-assembly then make it invisible before performing the operation.

Thanks for your help, @jhackney1972

 

As I use this technique for support quite often, I decided to make the support brace and sprues as a library component and then use it in each of the top covers and bases as a component. This enables me to enable/disable when showing my client (disabled) and when printing the prototype (enabled).

 

Much appreciated... I just need someone to give my head a wobble. 🙂
