Splitting a large body

Hi there, I am trying to split a long facia panel into two parts so that I can 3D print each half. However, every method I have tried comes up with 'compute fail', probably because the mid plane does not extend fully throughout the model, but leaves a bit not included.

Here are two grabs of the two methods that have failed. I think using some sketch method might work, but I'm not clear where and what to draw to do it.

Any suggestions on how to cut the model to split?

Thanks

Hi @979jules979 ,

Can you please attach previous designs that you've completed in Fusion?
Please export your design as a *.f3d/*.f3z file to your local drive and then attach it to your reply.

That is definitely NOT the case. Planes are infinite!

Well, not for me. Another 'split error' as in grab

I can split the front face, but I need to also split the middle boxes that are left in place. These boxes are just position by the appertures. Perhaps I need to used solid 'jopintys' and then it will all split instead of just the front face?

I have split the relevant parts separately and then joined them together again. Messy, but it works. Thanks for the demos.

Divide or separate (move)?

Because these are two different goals.

@979jules979

You write "split face" but you should be writing Split Bodies.

Why do you have multiple bodies?

Why are none of your sketches fully defined?

Would you be willing to start over from scratch and simplify the design process with step-by-step instructions?

Is this really the Design Intent (missing Tangent Constraints)?

Hi,

Your first question:

Hi there, I am trying to split a long facia panel into two parts so that I can 3D print each half.

Even the inserts consist of 2 solids each.

Why?

The deeper I dig into this model the more things I find that probably weren't intended.

We can significantly improve your design process.

Attached is a simplified model.

Note the shorter Timeline.

Note the red lock glyphs indicating every sketch is fully defined.
