Split Body Using Profile - Error (possible bug)

Hi

I am making an outside door. I have the basic dimensions in place and now want to separate the body out to separate components using a (2 segment) line to work on the mortice and tenon joints.

Now if I select my required profile and leave the 'Extend Splitting Tool' enabled the cut is performed as expected. if I disable it and try again I get an error message 'Cannot compute' no intersection. The points I chose were produced by the project command.

The split lines are on Sketch 3, converting the square 'figure of 8' into 5 bodies

Thoughts or solutions most welcome

Thanks

@docara - I'm not sure I follow what doesn't work.  Can you include a screencast or some screen shots that show what doesn't work as you expected?  Thank you.

Hi Jeff,

I will sort a screen grab shortly.

If you look on sketch 3 you will see angled lines in the corners of the 'glass', running vertically and at 45deg. I want these lines to form the cutting plane/path of the split body command.

Just thinking - I created the sketch on the surface of the door whereas part of the cut is recessed below this plane. Could this account for the problem?

Hi Jeff

So the first pic is the split I want to carry out at each corner. When completed, this will give me 5 bodies.

The second picture is the error I get when I try and carry out the command. Bear in mind that the cutting 'plane' is indicated correctly in the first pic.

The last picture uses the same procedure with same profile but has the 'Extend Splitting Tool(s)'  enabled. Notice the extra cut (as expected) on the right hand side of the frame.

Incidentally, although the command shows plural you are only able to select one profile at a time - very annoying!

The trouble is you're splitting a closed shape in only one place, you need to do both sides at the same time and end up with 2 bodies. See attached file.

Also if you joint all the curves for the splits you can do the whole door in one split feature, see attached.

@docara - do you have the latest version (updated yesterday evening)?  Multiple sketch tools are now supported:
