Split Body Tool Size Problem

I have a question about the split body tool. I am building a small wood plywood top with solid wood edges on 3 sides. The top will finish out at 21 x 21". I draw the center plywood the extrude the thickness, then draw my wood edge profile on the back side and sweep it around the 3 edges.

I then turn off the center plywood body and make a plane with 3 points in the corners to define the miter joints. I then use the split body tool to break up the wood edge into 3 pieces as I need to call out the cut dimensions on a shop drawing.

This works great on larger items. On this smaller top, the split body tool cuts into both pieces. I do not see a way to control the size of the cutter. There is a "extend cutter" check box, but that doesn't change anything checked or unchecked.

I attached a pic of the result I am getting. You can see where it is clipping the back edge of my molding.

Is there anyway to control the size of the cutter?  I just need to cut the small joints in the front. Split Body Tool.jpg

Yes, but not if you are using a construction plane as the cutting tool.

If you are using a line or a surface here is an option to disable "extend citing tool" .

You can simply create a sketch of a rectangle on that 3-point plane you've created and then go into the patch workspace and create a (surface) patch from that rectangle. Then you can use that patch to split your pieces.
