Snap Component to Sketch Geometry ?

Anonymous

Normally creating a new Sketch needs geometry to position it. Thing is I have a Component from a Sketch I have duplicated and now want to position the new copy, so I point to point snap it where I want but this doesn't have any included Sketch Geometry so I can't constrain it.

Any suggestions ?

How about sharing a screenshot, screencast or even sharing your design ?

@Anonymous,

Without seeing what you are trying to accomplish, my suggestion is to create a geometry point at a vertex on the sketch first and then do your positioning.

I thought Point to Point move snapped parallel to the first point but I see now it doesn't. Also not finding any snapping to near edges etc with normal move.

All you have to do is create a sketch on the back legs and project a point to that sketch then you can snap to it. Here is a video.

Might take a min to be available.

Thanks Phil it has been helpful but when I resize the length it doesn't constrain to it's position. Also what if in other cases the point is not in line ?

"I thought Point to Point move snapped parallel to the first point but I see now it doesn't."

My video answered how to deal with the problem in this question.

"when I resize the length it doesn't constrain to it's position."

You can do it like this:

"Also what if in other cases the point is not in line ?"

I would just create a sketch on a face where you want to snap the object to. You can snap to any point in a sketch when using point to point move. You can also snap to any corner of an object.
