Sketches

I am attempting to make a new sketch off of a part that I already made. I made a round cylinder shaped object by revolving it around an axis. Now I want to select one end to make a sketch on it. Instead of making a new sketch on the face that I selected, it goes to the opposite end and wants to make the sketch there by creating the 3-axis planes and axes there. No matter what I do, I can't get it to make the plane on the end that I picked. I don't know why. Anyone have a solution or a way around this problem.... It is most likely me, as I am not too familiar with Fusion 360.   Thank you for your help.   Mike

@Anonymous Welcome to the Fusion 360 community.

Can you post a screen shot of your model, including the browser and timeline? That might help me figure out why you can't sketch where you want to. Glad to help.

My guess is that the face you're trying to pick is not 100% flat, and that's why when you try selecting it, it selects the one behind it

To make sure if this is what's going on, create a rectangular cut through the revolved body, a complete flat cut to check, and if the sketch snapped to the face, my theory is correct

Since the body was created by revolving sketch geometry, you should be able to use the Measure tool to verify the top is flat.  You may need to change the displayed precision in Preferences|Unit and Value Display|General precision in order to see a small variation from flat.

You can also use the Plane at Angle tool to create a plane at the top of the body.  Use the top line in the sketch as the base for the plane and set the angle to 90 degrees.
