Sketch spline deforms when copy/paste/moved.

Hi can anyone tell me why this is happening? In sketch mode I have made a simple shape comprising of an arc, a line, a fillet and a simple spline curve with only two fit points. I copy the shape, close the sketch, create a new sketch, right click it in the browser, click edit sketch and paste the copied shape. Then I use scale to make the shape smaller. Now I want to copy the shape to make an array.

When I copy/paste/move the shape the spline deforms. I have tried fixing the spline (right click/fix) but still happens. I am still learning the subtleties of Fusion and would be grateful for any feedback.

Hi @Anonymous,

Do you think you could post some screenshots or a screencast (screencast.autodesk.com) to help provide a clearer idea of what is happening.

Thanks,

Hi, to prevent the splines changing on you like that for copy and move operations, you probably want to add dimensions to to tangent handles of the spline.  When you click on the spline they appear as blue or green lines at spline points.  Using the dimension tool easiest way for me is to then carefully click on one end point then other of the tangent handle, then right click and choose Aligned for the dimension.  Now when you copy the spline and the tangent handle "weights" dimensions, should keep same shape.  You can also right click once selected spline to activate Curvature handle and dimension that (I think as a radius) but never needed to do that yet.

Let us know if that doesn't take care of it.

Hi,

I don't have permission to access the video. Could you please check that?

thanks

Hi jjurban, thanks for the post. I tried your suggestion using dim tool but when I right click there is no align option, just driven or driving.

Hmm, this is the sequence I do.  First with the dim tool selected I select the two tangent handle end points points, then start moving the mouse cursor away until the dimension appears, then the very next thing I do is right click BEFORE the dimension has actually been placed, i.e. while it's still "free floating".  Hopefully following that sequence you should see the different alignment options (horizontal, vertical, along) show up upon the right mouse button click.

Sorry jjurban for delay in response.. When I copy the shape the spline curve changes, not the dimensions of the handles, I have checked them and they remain the same, but for some reason the curve straightens. If I exit the sketch and then select it in the browser, then copy/paste/move it works fine, but I end up with another sketch every time, when I want to stay in the same sketch........?

It sounds like maybe a tangent handle is rotating for the copy?  I also noticed how that one tangent handle is blue, which I believe means it was activated.  You can try selecting that blue tangent handle, right clicking and choosing Deactivate tangent handle.  For your purposes though how about doing a Sketch > Rectangular pattern operation to duplicate that spline geometry?  If you continue to have problems you can always share the model, or export the .f3d file to upload to this thread.

I did some quick testing locally but can not reproduce the problem. Do you mind attaching the f3d here or directly send the file to me? My email address: Jiang.Peng@autodesk.com

thanks
