Sketch created outside of component

This is really annoying.  I created a fairly simple component, the core of which was a box.  I created a sketch on the top and bottom of the box and extruded some bits.  Then I discovered that neither sketch created inside of the component.

a) Why not?

b) How do I move them into the component once this has occurred.

Many thanks,

For most interactions Fusion 360 is able to automatically associate a feature like extrude with the component. Sketches are IMHO a bit tricky, because there are good reasons to have shared sketches. So I can understand why Fusion 360 does not move those directly into the component.

Best practice would be to check, that your component is active (check point at the end of your component name)

active vs inactive.png

If you want to move it, you have to drop it onto the component name (like Component1:1 or Component3:1 in this image) and not onto the sketch folder in the component. Don't ask my why.

You should probably familiarize ourself with Fusion 360's R.U.L.E #1.

I had created the Component, I just did not realise I needed to activate it.  Will remember that now though 😉

Many thanks for the help.
