Sketch Copy Paste odd begavior

I would like to know what I am doing wrong.  I kept expecting this to be a problem resolved but since it is still prevalent, I will ask.

Within a sketch being edited, I select the entire sketch by dragging a box around it and select Copy.  I then create a new sketch or edit another sketch.  When I select the past option, the copy is pasted but rotated 180 degrees.  Also, the presentation of the sketch is very different.  For example, the points that don't show between line segments on the original sketch are presented as black dots on the pasted sketch.  I just want a clean copy of the original.  There are no solids, components, etc,, just sketch work.

Thanks for any help.

Hi @OFGLLC,

Would it be possible to post a screencast (available here for free) of what you are seeing?

In general, sketch paste is sensitive to the coordinate system of the sketch you are pasting into.  The red axis is the X axis, and the green is the Y axis.  Paste will try to keep the source geometry in the same place relative to the origin and orientation of the sketch it was copied from.  If your sketches are not aligned, some rotation or translation may be needed.

We can explain more once we see what you are dealing with.

Jeff

Screencast posted as requested.   1) Created some vectored text on a new Sketch.  2) Copied all to clipboard.  3) Created another Sketch,  Note, plane was never asked for, which happens frequently.  Pasted to new Sketch.  Results displayed as described earlier.  Note: If I create a third Sketch or think ahead and create blank test, the plane is queried and the paste results in a correctly oriented result.  However, the points are still persistently displayed (in black).   How can I perform this simple operation without having to create the new sketch in advance and without the point conversion?  Also, shading does not display correctly until the Sketch is stopped once.  Thanks for the help.

Still wondering why the points become constrained in the copy as well as why numerous arcs are frequently lost.  Do I need to do another in depth screencast to get an answer?

Hi @OFGLL,

I might have a solution for you!

Before you create a 2nd sketch:

1. Please create a New Offset Plan on the origin that you want it (no matter the distance).

2. Create the 2nd sketch on the new Plan.

3. Inside this sketch, Paste the copied sketch.

Please let me know if it solved your problem.

Best Regards.

Ben

As far as I could tell, the same results as just creating the second Sketch first. Ie. creating the sketch on an offset plane made no difference. Still dropping arcs when paste. I have abandoned copying exploded text. There seems to be a problem.

If you don't mine, please send me the file and I will check it out.

The question was poorly worded.   I have determined that both import SVG and Explode text create by default 'Fixed" lines and curves.  Therefore, I can unfix them after selecting them.  That explains the problems moving exploded text and imported SVG's.  I'll create another question for the fact that a lot of the stuff is not copied.

No need for a file.  Create a Sketch, make text say, the word "Test" in 2" letters.  Unfix if you like, you may have to do twice.  Copy all into the clipboard and then create another Sketch and paste it.  Lines will be missing.

I have captured this odd behavior in a screencast. Here we can clearly see all entities not being selected in the fence select, and the odd placement of the pasted object.

I would also note that this is an imported, then modified .SVG file. I'm also unclear what the difference in what the dark endpoints and white endpoints are. I guess I'll go look that up right now.
