Sketch Constraint issues

Hey everyone,

I'm trying to figure out how to fully constrain my sketch. I just started and am working through the "Fusion in 90min" tutorial, but have run into an issue trying to get the tea kettle lid sketch lines to turn black. Any help would be appreciated.

you still need some dimensions, right now it knows what shape it needs to be but not how big it is.

Hi @lizarddragon1054

From the image i can see you have applied constraints but no dimensions.

Add dimensions

Are there any unresolved issues highlighted in yellow or red in your Timeline?

Gotcha, thanks. I had to backtrack to the sketch in order to figure out what was wrong. I had tried adding dimensions before, but that generated like 4 errors in the timeline, so I just restarted. I think part of the reason is that my computer is slow (skylake 4 core i7 and rx 460), and so the lines took several seconds to turn black.

Thought I'd ride on the back of this existing thread rather than start a new one. I've realised, in passing, that my sketches never turn black these days and probably haven't for a year or two as I don't pay too much attention to that. I always constrain everything I want constrained anyway.

However, idle moment and I thought I'd be good for once, but found a triple checked, fully constrained and dimensioned sketch would not turn black or become padlocked. Weird. So I did the attached simple test. All of these shapes should be black, shouldn't they? Or am I missing something?

When I opened your model and edited your sketch, it is fully constrained.  In my color scheme, the entities change from Blue to White when the sketch is fully constrained.  The Sketch icon in the Browser shows a padlock also.

Interesting that it shows unconstrained until Edit Sketch.

Yes, strange, isn't it. I've just tried opening it on my laptop as well, still all blue, which implies it's something related to my profile. Opening to edit makes no difference. I've been trying to think whether I changed anything in preferences but can't remember doing so and, in any case, can't see anything obvious in there.

Like I say, I don't rely on this feature so it doesn't matter. But the law of bad things says I'll find, within a week, that having this working would save me hours and hours!

Thanks for confirming that I'm not having senior moments though.

... and here's the really interesting thing. I traced back through my designs to find one where I did have it all locked up and found, when I opened a locked up, fully black sketch, that it then goes blue and unlocked. A bug perhaps?

... and one more: today, I tried uninstalling and a clean reinstall. It wants to show black, does so if I hover over over the drawn object in both closed and edit modes, but reverts to blue and no padlock once I move the mouse off the object.

I also tried reinstalling using a different account (I created a new email just to test this), and that version works normally; so it has to be something to do with my profile. All the preferences are identical and I can't see anything that differentiates one install to another.

I don't think I could bear exporting and moving all my work to the new account just for this, so I'll probably just live with it.
