sketch circle uses diameter but sketch polygon (hexagon) uses radius

Can someone please explain the logic behind using a diameter to sketch a circle and using a radius to sketch a polygon eg a hexagon?

The logic is that the radius is half the diameter 😉

Kidding aside, why would this matter ?

If drawing a circle manually I would determine the radius and draw from the centre, this seems to be the logic behind drawing a polygon eg a hexagon.

If drawing a hexagon the usual measurement is across flats (diameter).

The menu option Sketch | Circle | Center Diameter circle gives a pop up description " Creates a circle using a centre point and radius. Select to define the center point then specify the radius."

It is just confusing until one gets used to it. Even the developers / documenters  are confused.

Hi OldNGrey,

Good catch for the description issue "Creates a circle using a centre point and radius. Select to define the center point then specify the radius." This is indeed confused to the users.

The development team will change the description to "Creates a circle using a centre point and diameter. Select to define the center point then specify the diameter."

Thanks,

Daniel Huang
