Simulation Contacts are Not Easy to Locate

I created an assembly to do some simulation on.  This assembly has a lot of contacts that I needed to manually build.  Once created, these contacts are not easy to locate within the model, and I have to drill down pretty deep into the details to find out which contacts are what.

I also could not seem to delete any contacts once they were created.

So, I have two questions:

1) Is it possible to view contacts within the simulation window (in a way similar to joints)?

2) Is it possible to delete contacts once they are created?

Hi @neljoshua

Thank you for posting!

1) Is it possible to view contacts within the simulation window (in a way similar to joints)?

A: We are able to see the contact faces using "Manage Contacts"

Contacts.jpg

But if your mesh data is showing, the contact faces can't see well. I tried to remove the mesh data using "Toggle Mesh Visibility" however it seems that body was disabled. I would need to check it with development team whether it's by design.  so could you try it before meshing at first?

2) Is it possible to delete contacts once they are created?

A: Yes, If you use "automatic" option, we are unable to delete it.

this is help menu

Automatic Contacts: Contact sets are generated automatically based on the default contact type (bonded) and default parameters. You can edit automatic contacts at any time after you create them.
You can also suppress automatic contacts, but you cannot delete them. To eliminate contact interaction from a study, follow the instructions under How to edit contact pairs on this page to access the CONTACTS MANAGER. Then, select the contact set or sets, right-click, and choose Suppress Contact Set.
Manual Contacts: Define contact sets manually for entities that you select. You can edit, suppress, or delete Manual Contacts after creating them.

One more thing, If you want to use "Manual" contact, it will be good to combine model between same material or bodies which will be bonded. in my case, if there's complex assembly, before adding contacts, I tried to simplify it using combine features in order to avoid a confusion.

Hopefully, this will help

Many thanks,

Ahreum.

@ahreum.ryu,

Thanks for the reply.

Regarding viewing contacts, I am aware of the current viewing options within Fusion.  These, however, can difficult to see (even without the mesh), and I was hoping that there was something that was easier to view (such as the way that joints are indicated).  It is frustrating to have to select each contact in the dialogue to find the one in question; it would be great if they could be accessed directly from the window.

As for deleting contacts, I have no automatic contacts in this simulation--only manual.  In some of my models (link), the delete option is not available for contacts that I manually created.

@ahreum.ryu,

Perhaps you noticed this, but despite the fact that I selected to NOT have Fusion automatically apply contacts, it does so in every simulation that I create.  I cannot delete these auto-generated contacts, and it is annoying to have to suppress them every time (there are many of them).

Is this by design?

Hi @neljoshua

Thank you for sharing your model and awesome idea.

I found this threads that require to delete Automatic Contact in IdeaStation. I voted it as well and If you agree it please vote it and let's see how it works.

And it will appreciate it you can share your idea regarding improve contact view in simulation to the idea station and please share the link, I'm going to vote it as well.

When clicking "Manual Contacts" at first, you are able to see this message

 Manual conatct.jpg

At that time, if you click "Yes", the contact will be created automatically. Therefore if you want to create contact manually, you should click "No".

Also, you are able to distinguish where those come from through Name. if it created by manual, we are able to see [M].

I agree that contact limitation would be a bit frustrated. Smiley Sad Let's gather more votes in idea station.

I greatly appreciate your effort to help us improve Fusion 360! Smiley Embarassed Thanks again for reporting this!

Have a great day!

Many thanks,

Ahreum.

@ahreum.ryu,

I am aware of the dialogue that appears when one begins to create manual contacts.  My issue is that I selected "no" (for multiple models that I created in the past few days), and every one went ahead and generated automatic contacts anyway.  The dialogue appears to do nothing!

In the end, it appears that I am having issues with viewing and deleting contacts because Fusion generates automatic contacts regardless of what I do.

I humbly request that this be fixed.

@ahreum.ryu,

Here is a link to the IdeaStation post I just created regarding Contact visibility.
