Simulation: Apply force/constraint on small part of a surface.

Is it possible to apply a force or constraint on only a part of a surface? 

Let say I have a beam which is supported only by a couples of inches at each end. If I select the constraint option and click on the surface, it will pick the surface on the entire length of the beam. 

Is there any way to restrict the constraint or force to a smaller section of the surface?

Use the Modify>Split Face with a sketch of your desired target shape and size.

(there used to be a way of defining the target directly, but now I can't find it)

We are aware of the need to do this in Simulation without having to do the split in Model environment.
