Thanks for your question.

You can create category under library to group your materials, for example, you can create a 'Metal' category under Favorite and move your material under 'Favorite > Metal'.  If a material move to Favorite library root, it will show as 'uncategorized' as design.

For the type, it is to tag the material usage by default, and you can freely change it to different choice like 'wood' to re-tag it if you need.
