Shell on a bit more complex object

Hi all, I'm new to fusion 360, not so new to Autodesk and other CAD software.

As part of my learning curve, I want to design a showell handle. Kids broke it, so let's print 🙂

I wanted to make it a bit more complex, so I used a centerline with 3 different profiles and used Loft - centerline.

That went all good, but now I want to make it hollow. Yes I could make a offset body then subtract both. BUT I want to use the SHELL function. Not sure what I'm doing wrong, but it just doesn't want to work.

Any help would be much appreciated.

The link does not work (for me at least). Can you export the design as a .f3d file and attach it to the next post ?

Here is you model with a 3mm external thickness.  Slide your timeline marker back before the applied fillets to add the shell.

Thanks @jhackney1972 .

I guess I made 2 mistakes. 1st I did that before, but never noticed it went hollow, 2nd then went for fillets.

In some posts here I read U need to have fillets to do Shell. Is there any rule to that?

Out of interest. What would be the best/fastest methode to get rid of the bottom surfaces, so it fould be open on the bottom, but still have a 3mm shell?

Try clicking the face you want gone, then hit the delete key. Doesn't always work but worth a try. I also haven't looked at your model so no guarantees. Useful trick in any case.

Thanks for the suggestion. Tried that but looks like it's not an option here. The model goes crazy 😳🤣

Your model had a very uneven bottom so I dropped back to your original model and straightened that out.  I then shelled it and removed the bottom.  It is all explained in the Screencast.  I removed all your fillets as the ones on the bottom edge had to go anyway.  As I mentioned in the video, I changed the color because dark blue is hard to work with and see edges.  You or course can change it back.  Model is attached.

@jhackney1972 thanks a lot. Now I get it. I made it uneven when I played around with that first extrude of the Sketch 5 when I made it a bit Tapered. Thanks again John, you helped me a lot.

One reason shelling an object often fails is bad surface curvature. There is a curvature map inspection tool in the Inspect menu, which in this case perfectly highlights the less than ideal quality of the loft.

I personally would likely not have pieced this together from arcs and lines but used a spline as the rail:
