Shell command issue

Hi,

I'm unable to shell the attached body, I tried splitting the body but that makes the shelling effect longitudinal, meaning if I choose a value of 5 cm the body is deleted leaving only 5 cm of it. Also, the splitting of the body does not work with any plane other than the default Origin planes (offset planes does not work).

Hi @haniysf,

Thank you for sharing your file.

I took a quick look at it and I could see that you have a couple issues in your timeline which may do cause the issue.

You might want to take care of these at first before using the shell feature.

I hope this helps.

Thanks,

Hi Mike,

Thank you for looking into my issue, I could not find any attachments to your message. Did you include anything to clarify the timeline issues you noticed?

Hi Phil,

Red warning is removable without affecting the body ( it was for the deletion of a an unneeded body ) I removed the warning anyway and no luck with that ( the same issue ). as for the yellow, those are for sketches as you know, and since I have a body why should those minor warnings affect the manipulation of a 3D body, it would have been understandable if I was facing issues creating the body it self. would you agree?

@haniysf

I do agree, but warnings can cause all kinds of strange stuff with history based parametric modeling. This is why any time I am using the sculpt environment I never have history on. I don't believe in working with the sculpt environment and history...just too much overhead with current processing technology and more hair pulling headaches then I care to subject myself to.

Anyways I'm not sure if the warnings have anything to do with your problem as I don't have the proper time to look at your file right now, but I would get the warnings fixed no matter what.

It's bad practice and sloppy design to have a dirty timeline. Your working on a patent design that you want to look professional. Other engineers will not take you seriously if you hand off a file like this. I mean no disrespect just thought you should be aware of it. Not to mention how easy it is to break your model with a dirty timeline. Fusion can also become very unstable with a dirty timeline.

very valid point about the clean timeline, I totally agree, besides that do you have any suggestions to get the shell command to work as it should?

I will try to get time tonight to see if I can get it working, I'm at work right now and my boss probably wouldn't be happy about me doing it now. Smiley Wink

@haniysf

You can't shell it because of the sharp edges on this face. Also the shape creates a singularity at each end. This will never shell like this.

I would suggest creating a inner body to subtract from the outer one.

When I built the middle section (the one with the sharp edges) I patched it
on the two ends to experiment and I was able to shell it without any
hiccups. The issue surfaces when the nose and tail sections are added.
By the way, I didn't comprehend what you said about singularity at the
ends. Can you please clarify this.

Hi @haniysf,

Thanks for asking.

I haven´t attached any picture nor a file to my post.

The yellow and red marked features in the timeline need to be fixed to continue working with your design.

Once you click on the feature, a small warning message in the bottom right window appears.

You can click on it and expand the window that you see detailed information what actually went wrong with the feature and what needs to be fixed.

I hope this helps.

Thanks,
