Sharing a drawing template

Hi,

I built a drawing template that I want other users to also use.

I couldnt find any way to send them the drawing template so they can use it.

If I share a link to the drawing, they download it, and when they upload the file (.17 file?) they cant open it, or do anything with it, when double clicking on the uploaded file it redirects to the link in the browser to view the file. I cannot open it on another fusion 360 and edit it.

What am I doing wrong? is there a simple way to share drawings or drawing templates?

Thanks.

Hi,

Can you try this workflow.
Open the template in Web and download the f2t file and share it through email.

Steps:
1. Data panel Data panel.PNG

2. On the saved template > click the "V" version > Click Open Details on Web Open in Web.PNG
2. In Webpage > click Download Download.PNG to save as f2t on your desktop

3. Email the f2t file which can be uploaded upload.PNG by others into their projects and use it.

Do let us know if it works for you and have any further questions.

Hi Keshava,

So I have uploaded an .F2T into my project. Currently I an only select it (in my sheet settings) when in the template.

How do I have my custom template appear when I am in other drawings within the project?

For example I have a Title Block as per the attached pictures. When in the .F2T template I can see it/use it. However when I start a new drawing it's not available. (see second photo).

I've tried exporting it as a .dwg (from Fusion) and then inserting it as 'insert custom title block" which does not work as it's then trying to bring in the borders etc (i think).

Am i missing something?

Thanks,

Mike

@westlam, glad you're using drawing templates. When you create new drawing, have you selected the drawing template to create new drawing? All settings including title blocks of selected template will be avaialbe in new drawing.  Notes: Templates in current folder will be automatically populated, if not, please use 'Browser...' to find related template (f2t) file.

Hi Lori, thank you very much for the reply.

I am able to use the template for new drawings. The issue I was having was with an existing drawing that was created without the template.

Is there a solution for porting over a template into an existing drawing?

Thank you very much,

Mike

@westlam, understood. Currently we don't have a directly way to porting template into existing drawing. But could you try below workaround?

  1. Select a sheet in sheet set bar (sheet thumbnails), right click 'Add Sheet'
  2. On 'Add Sheet' command dialog, select the drawing template which has two title blocks
  3. After sheet added, the title block in template will be imported into current existing drawing

I stumbled across this thread and was having the same issue, but we figured out the solution.

I'm a teacher and created a custom title block and wanted to share it with students to use for their assignments. I created the drawing template within Fusion360 and shared a public link. I made sure it was available to download. Kids downloaded it and then uploaded it into a "templates" folder that I had them create. However, it was not available to actually use as a template when they tried to create a new drawing from design.

HERE WAS THE SIMPLE FIX:

In Windows Explorer (or in Finder on a Macbook), they simply needed to add ".f2t" to the end of the filename. Somehow the file type got lost when they downloaded it from the shared public link that I had provided.

When they did this, they were able to upload and use the file as a template.

If you're having the same problem, I hope this helps solve your issues, too!
