Select faces for shelling

Hi

Great piece of software. 🙂 Now I'm digging into sculpting...

I'm trying to create a shell. But somehow I cannot select the face(s). Any idea what went wrong?

The body should get a 2mm wall and should be open on the bottom: http://a360.co/1UuxeoJ

Thanks in advance

Hi Kurt,

You have a couple of problems here.

One is this is a surface and not a solid. The very tip at the front has a hole so you can't use the shell command.

Two your surface is inside out so you need to select all the faces and flip the normals under patch -> Modify -> reverse normals.

Three you have to many sharp edges, and the nose will not allow you to shell this part.

You can't even use the thicken command because of all the sharp bends in the surface.

To be honest I think I would have used profiles and lofts for this.

Hi Phil

Thank for your reply. I just tryed to solve my problem with the loft function. Looks very promising. 🙂

Kind regards,

Kurt

Hi Phil

Your advise was very helpful. 🙂 But there are still some issues. 😉

After lofting I was not able to generate the shell. Any idea why? http://a360.co/1NuTzkM

Then I sketched "shelled" profiles and got a good result: http://a360.co/1qlQmZy

As you can imagine, the front and the end of the model won't look like this. How can I add more detail to them? I suppose it does not work with more profiles.

Kind regards,

Kurt
