Select a Plane Orientation

When in "sketch" I get the "select a plane" prompt.  Make the plane choice but the selected plane does not orientate to a flat plane for sketching.  If I select from the cube it will orientate.  Watched several videos on the new UI and in the examples the selection switches on "select a plane" prompt.  Where or what is missing?

Occurs also on solids.  Selecting a face can only be orientated flat for sketching by the cube controls.  Is there a missing step procedure?  thanks.

"LOOK AT" is not active if the 3D sketch is active!

Can you put a screencast or some video(while selecting plane) so that we can figure out what's missing?

That worked.  Unchecking the 3d sketch in the pallet solved the plane orientation problem.  Thank you, thank you.  Much appreciated.
