Use the .f3d format when exporting as it is the only native Fusion 360 format.
If your design includes linked components you can only export it as a .f3z. This is also Fusion 360 native.
The disadvantage of saving these files locally is that currently they only contain the latest version of your design so you loose the ability to go back to an earlier version.

I am new to fusion 360 and will be using it to do drawings that are very proprietary and they can't (at this time) be viewed by the public. So the next question is if I do save to the computer is the drawings also open to the cloud? The drawings must be in safe location.
If they force the save to the Cloud, you could do small pieces that are unrecognizable, name them something obscure...in addition to exporting to your computer
