Saving files locally?

How do I save files locally and open them to work on them?   Yesterday I was working on a project and BAM up comes a message that something or other was offline and services were down.

Hi @burnandreturn

Thanks for posting! You can save files locally by exporting a Fusion native (.f3d or .f3z) format file from Fusion 360. For assemblies with linked designs (inserted or x-referenced components), you will need to export the .f3z file from either a shared link or a web browser.

You can then open these designs in Fusion as a new design from file. It is important to note that Fusion will not save changes to files opened with this method to the locally saved file - this will create a new file in Fusion that can either be saved to the cloud/your data panel with the "Save" command or re-exported as a new local archive copy.

Hopefully this helps! Please let me know if you have any questions.

Both the Save icon and the Export command on the drop down menu are greyed out. I can go to my browser but there again is no export or save. I like the way Fusion360 works. But, this uploading to the cloud process is ridiculous. I am a hobbyist and don't care who uses my designs. They are welcome to them. But being able to stop, save and get back to the project is really important to me. Fusion360 may end up in the trash if I can't resolve this Save, Export issue.

If you don't like cloud based products, don't choose them.

Access to my files anywhere in the world (with Internet), saves me from losing / not having the thumb drives.  Allowing others to access them saves me having to go home to set up the email of it.

Horses for courses, wont suit everyone.

I don't understand how the location of files results in loss of control?

If you truly want to save directly to your hard drive only, one way is to go to File, Export and save your model to your hard drive.  It will be completely static but if that is what you desire it is there.  For single files, self-contained assemblies you will use F3D format.  Since you do not want to use the Cloud Data Panel, you will not have any linked file assemblies so you will not get any F3Z format.

@kelvin.j.b

You don’t explain what issue you are having saving stuff directly to your computer.  I do exactly that dozens of times every day.  Most of my files never leave my hard drive except to be posted here.  They never touch the cloud.
