Reverse Engineering Fog Light Bezel

Hello,

 

I'm trying to reverse engineer a fog light bezel in Fusion. I took a 3D scan with my Revopoint Pop 2, but I'm new to 3D scans and didn't get great results. Now, I need to model the whole part, but I'm not sure how to start this project. Can someone help me determine the best approach, whether it's modeling it using surface or working in a form environment, or a combination of both methods? When I have the model ready I'll print it in a 3d printer in one part.

This is a nuanced form that's going to be hard to model accurately no matter how you approach it. Given that your goal is just to print a copy, I suspect that your time would be better spent on getting a more accurate and detailed scan.

 

Try doing it with photogrammetry and see how that works out. I don't know enough to recommend a specific photogrammetry pipeline, but 3DF Zephyr seems to get good reviews. Mark up the original object with chalk lines before you take photos to help the analysis converge.

 

Once you have a good scan, you're probably best off cleaning it up in Blender rather than Fusion 360.
