Request for feature improvement: Comments tool

Hi. Is there a reason why Comments text can't be edited or even selected?  I appreciate it's just meant to be a means to jot down notes, and perhaps it's tied to the timeline which makes editing it problematic, but this seems such a basic limitation. I'd like to use Comments to note down scale factors and other details and calculations I've made. This text really should be editable or at the very least selectable so I can copy and past calculations I've noted down into dialogue boxes in the design.  Could be a useful tool but I have to make notes elsewhere.

Once submitted, Comments need to maintain a "Chain of Authority" therefore they should not be editable once they are submitted and saved.  Say a customer made a comment that was not particularly complementary of a design and wanted some radical changes made.  If the comment could be edited, the company or person being addressed could edit the comment to take out some "expensive" request and then claim the comment was never made.

Thanks for getting back to me. Fair enough, that makes sense, although it's possible to delete a comment so not sure the rationale is water tight. I don't see why the text in submitted comments can't be selected and copied though.
