Rendering Translucent/Transparent materials

Hi all, I am working on some renders for a client of some roof lights that I have modeled. The current one is a trapezoid with both clear and deep blue tint on the different panes. I have been having a lot of difficulty trying to get a realistic looking render, I have searched the forums and tried using transparent (acrylic with a custom colour) but am still having issues.

Generally it looks OK however the quality just isn't high enough. Strangely I find the in canvas render returns better results than the local or cloud render. The biggest issue is even if I allow infinite iterations and allow it to run for a few hours it still appears that the glass/acrylic has a kind of haze, the best description is it is a much finer version of what appears on the screen when you first start an in canvas render, this is only on the glass/acrylic and not on the frame or painted surfaces.

Has anyone got any tips? My workstation is more than up to the job so I don't think it is performance issues here, either I need to leave it run over night which seems excessive? Or I'm missing something but my client is starting to get frustrated and so am I! Something so simple yet is causing so many headaches! I would share a picture (and I know I'm shooting myself in the foot if I don't) but my client wouldn't be happy!!

Any pointers would be grewatly appreciated!!!!!!!!!! Andy.

You could share screenshots of your material settings.

Also, translucency and transparency are two different things. Transparent materials have reflect, retrace and absorb. translucent materials do that but also scatter (SSS sub surface scattering)

I'll get some screen shots tomorrow. I'm just using the default settings for each material other than colour. Rendering is a little out of my comfort zone as i have no real experience. I had a look at the settings in edit material but didnt know where to start!

Thanks for the reply. Ill grab some screen shots when im back on it tomorrow.

Setting lighting is another major issue. I cant turn off the reflections on the flass from the lighting from the environment. Even though reflections are set to off!
