I am trying to do some renders of a knife I have been designing. I am having issues when I rotate the model making it look close to the ground. I click the drop down arrow by the view cube and reselect as front, or top. It helps a bit but is there something I am missing? I have viewed two fusion 360 render videos on the youtube channel. But they setting was not the same as re orienting the model like a knife in this example so it wasn't really talked about. I have a buddy that did a render and it looks like its laying on a table.
I did try changing the environment rotation in the scene settings. It helps some but I couldn't get the ground to be closer to the model when I change its orientation for multiple angles to be rendered of the model.
see how far off the reflection is?
You can see this one is one the ground it looks like.

You may have to rotate the model itself. The ground plane is set by whether you have "y up", or "z up" set:
If "z up" is set, then the ground plane will be on the xy plane, if "y up" is set, the ground plane will be on the xz plane. When you click on the "home" icon in the view cube,
that will bring you into a view where the ground plane is where you would expect it to be: with the "up" vector pointing up on the screen. If you click on that, is the ground plane in the expected place? If so, you may want to just rotate your model to map to that.

There are two ways to change how your model is placed:
1. You can use the move command to make your model parallel to the ground. In the video below I modeled the object standing up and then used the move command to rotate it so that it looks like it is laying down.
2. In the scene settings you can change the position. This will allow you to move the ground plane closer or further away from the model. You can see in the video I can actually put the model in the ground.
Hope this helps,
