regarding graphics card update!

Hello! 🙂

My Dell inspiron 5537(core i7) laptop has been taking time to update graphics for every command I give in fusion360. It takes around one minute to apply changes graphically. It is also showing a message on top:

"Your graphics card might not be optimal to run Fusion 360. Open Graphics diagnostic from the help menu for more information."

My PC has 8GB RAM and 2GB graphics card, which I think is a good configuration. It would be great to have suggestions on solving this issue. Do I need to update graphics driver? When I follow the link given in graphics diagnostic, it takes me to intel website to update the driver. I am little confused, if driver update is necessary then whether I should do it from intel website or from Dell website(as dell will provide compatible driver)?

Thanks,

Ashutosh

Hi @Anonymous,

Thank you for posting your question in the Forum. You can update your graphics driver through the "Intel Driver Update Utility" with the link here. This should show the same driver as the "Check for GPU driver update" button.

The system specific drivers can be updated as well through the "Dell System Detect" with the link here. The tools are a great help. They will find the latest updates of the drivers you need automatically.

Could you may share a schreen shot of your "Graphics Diagnostic" window with us? We can help you to find the specific driver for your system.

I hope this information helps

Sounds like your laptop is switching over to your integrated gfx card while running fusion, I have read many posts about this here on the forum.

Make sure Fusion is using your 2gb card.

Hi Mike and Phil,

Thank you for your reply. Attached here is the screenshot of my graphics diagnostics and it says:

GPU RAM : 112MB( Integrated Card)

Please have a look.

Thanks,

Hi @Anonymous,

Thank you for sharing the picture of your "Graphics Diagnostics" window.

I could see that the integrated graphics card is enabled and it provides only 128 MB GPU RAM, which probably causes the slow down.

We might have to go into detail about your system settings.

Could may share your system information with us?

You can follow the guide in this link here to manually collect the *.nfo file

Hi @Anonymous,

Thank you for sharing your system file.

This was really helpful to find out why your system is not choosing the correct graphics card

1. Graphics Driver

I could see that a newer driver for your AMD Radeon HD 8850m is available for your graphics card.

Currently installed Driver Version 15.200.1045.0 07/31/2015 -> New Driver version 16.15.2211 07/07/2016

Would you might update your graphics driver with the link here.

http://support.amd.com/en-us/download/desktop?os=Windows+10+-+64

2. Dell Inspiron 15R 5537 Hardware, BIOS, Chipset, ... drivers

Your BIOS Version is  A07, 12-Nov-13 needs to updated since A08 24-June-14 is available, that might fix the problem as well.

I would perhaps do the "Dell System Detect" which will automatically find the latest drivers for your Inspiron 15R 5537 Hardware with the link here.

http://www.dell.com/support/home/de/de/19/Eula/scan?sourcePage=J&scanType=TMC&loadSection=N&AppName=drivers&app=drivers

you can also use this link here to download and update manually

3. Windows Settings

This knowledge article here will help you to change your "Display settings" to enable your AMD Radeon graphics card.

I hope this information helps. Please, let us know if the graphics update worked?

Thanks,

Hello Autodesk Team,

Thank you for the help and support given.

As suggested I updated the display driver and fusion is using 2GB RAM now (PFA the new Graphic Diagnostic screen shot). But the problem of system getting hanged/browser area getting black, is still not resolved. When I try to move components as per the given slider joint, it shows Autodesk Fusion360(Not Responding)-(screen shot attached), it shows the final change after half to one minute.

I am still confused about the problem fusion/my PC has.

Regards,
Ashutosh

The slowdown you are experiencing could be due to model complexity, graphics, or a combination of these things. Before you go much farther analyzing this, you should set a baseline of expectations by eliminating the graphics question.

In this regard, I notice you are still using the more intense graphics effects: Antialiasing and Ambient Occlusion. While these are nice effects and optimally you should be able to run Fusion with any of them ON, it would be helpful to eliminate graphics entirely from your remaining question by turning off all of the effects using the control in the diagnostic. After you do this, check for the same performance issues.

Another thing to try is to make objects you aren't working on unselectable. This is done by selecting the components from the browser, right click, use Selectable/Unselectable toggle. This prevents the mouse movements from interacting with your many other components as you work on just one item. If this helps that is a great clue to your performance problems. Please let us know if this helps.
