Recurring problem with Join vs New Body

Pardon my ignorance. I uploaded a screencast and I don't know if that automatically posts my question for the forums. I will add a link with this in case it doesn't. The screencast attempts to ask whether it's okay to use Combine when Extrude reverses my Join to New Body. Any help will be appreciated.

I also apologize for my failure to frame the screencast properly. I'm learning 🙂

You need to click the Preview button for the screencast, then click it again when it changes to Insert.  If that fails, which is often, just add the URL to the main body of text.

You can use the Combine/Join to unite the bodies, or you can edit the feature (Right click on the feature in the Timeline).

Forget the Timeline Edit.  It won't allow it to be changed to Join.

In order to have the Join work from the start:

  1. Delete the current extrude.
  2. Activate the Front-Section component.
  3. Do the Extrude/Join operation.

p.s. There really is nothing wrong with doing the Join afterwards.  It just creates a new Timeline entry.

Thank you for your response and the advice on the screencast.
As to editing the feature from New Body to Join, F360 (in this case) won't
let me.

OMG! I can't believe I fell into that error! This exercise is the first in a long time wherein more than one component was used. I completely forgot about making sure I was working on the correct one. Am I ever embarrassed! Thanks much. You guys are really helping me.

Activate the Component, you want the Post extrude to join to, it works as expected, but without that activation,

has to be New Body, as there is nothing in the other Component / Assembly to join to.

Might help....

Exactly! Can't believe I forgot about the components and the need to match
the work with the appropriate ones. Thanks!
