"Position calculation failed due to initialization error" insert McMaster-Carr

Hi Fusion-Team,

while building my CNC router I imported a bunch of screws and washers from McMaster-Carr and saved them as single components in my Fusion360-Folders. I used a "common"-folder which is outside of the project folders because I want to resuse the parts.

I get the first error message directly after inserting the parts into the current design:

This error appears again when I want to align the part. In this example I wanted to align the washer to the surface of the front panel:

Fusion does a good job and place the washer correctly. Because of the error message I can't accept the position with "ok".

Even when I delete the component, I get an error message:

Some additional informations:

* Fusion 360 Nov. update

* OS X 10.11.1

* I used 3D-Step as Import-Format

* 3D-SAT-Files don't work at all. When I wanted to import models in 3D-SAT format I always got the following error message:

Best regards,

Hi Holger,

Thanks for reaching out.

Does it happen to all the parts or just the specific washer? I tried the steps you mentioned by saving a washer to a common project then inserting, but I am not able to reproduce the error. Would you share more information for which washer were you using (i.e. the part number)?

Hi Nicolas,

thank you for your answer. Of course I can tell you some of the parts I have imported from MacMaster.

Parts

91280A426

92290A232

But it seems that the situation is getting more clear. When I import a part from McMaster and align it with a simple object like a box anything works fine.2015-11-17 at 23.15.png

The problems occur when I use my assembly of the CNC-machine. Here I use imported STP-Files and imported Inventor-Parts:

The problem does not occur after the import and placement of the part of McMaster. The problem occurs, when I want to align the part afterwards.

I make a small screencast to show the problem, upload it and post the link.

Best regards,

  Holger

Hi Holger,

Many thank for the additional information. I’m thinking the issue should be related to the model of the CNC-machine.

Would it be possible to share us the model for a deeper analysis? I will look into it and see if I can find a workaround so you can continue your work. You may send me the link by enabling the download permission (email to: lixiong.xu[AT]autodesk.com) if you don’t want to post it here.

Hi Holger,

A quick fix for the issue is to use the "Compute All" command under the Modify group on the Ribbon. I will work with the development team to understand the issue.

I am bringing parts from a second assembly into my main assembly and I am now getting this error.  I have tried the Calculate All and it does not work.  I have tried bringing in one part at a time and get the same error.
