Propagate changes in mirrored components

Hi Guys-

I"m curious if there is a better way to do this.   This is for an effect for my Halloween show.

I've created a table that a ghost sits on.  This table has wheels and runs along a step ladder that is motorized.

What I've done is create one assembly called "Table Assembly".  It contains components such as the wood top, motor support plate etc.  It also contains the underlying frame which holds the wheels.

This underlying component I've called "long runner" that has the wheels attached.  There are two runners that are X number of inches from the centerline, both parallel to each other.

Here is my question:  the way I've created the second long runner is to simply use the mirror command.  What I find however, is that if I need to add a screw hole or another feature to the original component I  end up needing to mirror those new features features even though the second runner is a mirrored component.

Is there an easier way to do this?  The only thing I can think of is to save the original runner off to the data panel as it's own assembly file and then insert it into the parent assembly, but then it seems like I'm doing bottom up design.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.  File attached.

Matt

You simply need to pull the timeline marker back to before the mirror operation and then make the edits to the original comonent.

When done, pull the timeline marker back to the previous location and now the changes should have propagated to the mirrored component.

Edits made to either part after the mirroring operation are specific to each instance of the components.

I'm glad you like the video. The videos are totally amature, but I'm trying to make them as clear and simple as I can 🙂
