Projection to Surface Warning

Hi,

I'm trying to use the "project to surface" tool to project some geometry onto the ground plane and fusion is giving me an incomprehensible error. Hoping someone can help.

Order of operations is as follows

  1. Sketch>Project Include > Project To surface
  2. Select Ground Plane (ZX plane)
  3. Select sketch geometry (Blue circle)
  4. Select Projection vector (identified in red in attached figure)

I get the warning "Project to surface failed, please check the surface or the vector"

I don't know what I'm doing wrong, can anyone help me? Thanks ProjectionWarning.jpg

Some things you left out, you have a misunderstanding of what the command can do,

1. You need to be Editing a destination (3d?) sketch. (the projections will be owned by this sketch).

2. Select Sketch > Project Include > Project To Surface

3. Select Sketch Geometry (existing in other sketches Or body edges)

4. Select surface of a Body (Planes do not hold any Geometry)

5. Select Vector.

6. Press OK, and Fusion delivers purple projected lines into the current sketch.

Might help....

Not sure if that's helping.

Here's what I tried:

- Create sketch in the XZ plane

- Select this sketch, select Sketch->project->project to surface

At this point, I can select nothing. I can't select a face to project to, I can't select curves to project, and I can't project the vector along which I want to make the projection.

By the way I pressed the "accept solution" button by accident, is there any way I can "unaccept" your answer? No offense.

Export the file attach it here, with an explanation of what you want to do, we can show you.

Fusion has been buggy since the Jan update, could be related, no way to tell.

To fix the Accepted mistake, click report button, and ask to have it reversed.

Explanation of what I'm looking for in OP. Basically I want to project geometry from the "Foot position" sketch to the ground plane along a specified angle, e.g. the vector I indicated in red in my OP.

Thanks

Ok, thanks for the file, and

yes I get the same error,

probably due to the fact that the sketch and face of the body are both on the same plane, and whilst it should work, was probably not a use for the command as designed.

The answer to your requirement, was to sweep the circle on the extended path.  Then Project > Intersect the new body with the sketch.

Might help.....
