Projected model has open shape.

I have a "3D" shape that needs to be extruded. When projecting the whole model either onto a work surface or using 3D geometry; the shape remains open and cannot be used.

I have checked each individual vertex and cant find an opening.

Also tried projecting the outer edge line by line but am having no success.

Hi,

While I cannot see a break, I can tell you that the only closed shape that fusion finds right now is the smaller circles

as they are shaded. The larger shape is not shaded so it is open "somewhere" according to what fusion "sees".

How far have you zoomed in? It literally could be a fraction of a mm where there is a "break".

Have you tried creating another offset plane and projecting onto that? Check the curves where they connect to the lines VERY carefully.

Attach your file and lets have a look, it may be something simple - it may not. Until we see the file I don't think we

can help.

Cheers

Hi, that is correct. The only closed shapes are the 5 holes while the important bit is open.

I have went to maxiumum zoom which is literally  microns and cannot find a fault.

Tried projecting to a new plane, diffirent sketch etc.

Tried saving and importing as STP to remove all features and only have the base model.

Tried using selection filter to select each outline by hand instead of selecting the whole model but still not working.

I cannot howerer send the model for privacy reasons.

That is why I am looking for an asnwer to why the project function is not working properly.

Hi,

you have to close the gaps in the profile manually

Hi! Or try extruding it as a surface. Then stitch it. More than likely the small gaps will be healed. Then project the surface edges to a new sketch. It will be a closed profile.

Many thanks!

This actually worked on the 2D sketch, not on the 3D one but it's a start.

Thanks
