Project to Surface Question

Hi All,

I was wondering if someone could help me out... I'm having a total mind blank as to how best create a defined sketch shape, based on a projected sketch to a 3D surface. If you see the picture below, I have created a 2D sketch on sketch 5 and then projected this on to the surface of the body (Sketch-Project/Include-Project to Surface), on sketch 7.

How do I create a defined sketch on the body of the pen, so that I can extrude this shape and cut it out from the pen body to create a slot?

Thanks in Advance.

David.

Hi @Anonymous,

Extrude only works with planar sketches.  You can, however, use Press/Pull to create an emboss-type feature.  It depends on what your requirements are for this slot (whether the walls of the slot have to be perpendicular to the slot.  You can also use Sweep to create a slot in a cylinder.  I'll try to do a quick screencast to illustrate (I'll post it in a bit).

Here are a couple of screencasts.  Not being completely sure what you want this slot to look like, neither may be correct.  But, hopefully, these will give you some ideas to explore.

Hi @jeff_strater,

Thank you for taking the time to screen case a couple of solutions, I think that the 2nd one with the pipe selection will work just great!

Really appreciate your help, and also learning from your expertise!

Have a great day.

David.
