Problem with "Draft"

Hi, 

I have a book on Fusion 360 and I am working my way through the exercises and examples, and I am having trouble on one that requires me to use the draft function, the photo is of the exercise, it had not covered how to draft in this situation.

The only way I could find to draft the area was to extrude it by 0.5 mm first to provide a plane to draft, generally I got close to what was required but the profile of the draft is vertical instead of sloped as in the exercise.

Hoping someone can clarify this for me

I would challenge the author of that book to create that geometry using the draft function.

are you sure the author said to use the draft function, and not a "a part with a draft".  this could be an example of recognizing when to not use the draft function.

I used Draft function  - twice.

Do I get an extra 🍩🍩?

I have to agree with you on that, on one of the other exercise using a lot of arcs some of the radii listed were impossible to use and achieve the desired result.

The exercises where it works you through the whole process are OK , and for a book I was surprised to find it uses the current interface of F360.

The photo I posted contains the only instructions.

The Chapter it is in deals with "Placed Features",  Holes / Threads / Fillets / Chamfers / Drafts & Shells.

With my limited knowledge using a draft seemed the only way to achieve the result.

Thanks, a very elegant solution, now if I could just work out how you did it!

I downloaded your f3d file and tried to discover the separate operations used to construct the object, but I am afraid  I could not work out what to do.

careful, @TheCADWhisperer posted that as a lark, not as an example of a good way to model it.  gets extra credit for using draft twice in a model that shouldn't use it at all.

Thanks for this, worked through your file and saw the "light", using Plane at Point, ended up being a lot less work than the way I had tried using "Draft".

Pity they hadn't covered something like this 2 chapters when they were dealing with Planes.

That said I find I learn a lot more when things go wrong than when they work!
