Problem after projecting into present design

I am a newbie to CAD and Fusion 360. I have inserted a design into my present design and I now need to reference the inserted design geometry to build parts onto it but I cannot project the geometry. Furthermore I cannot form joints onto the inserted item.

Any help greatly appreciated

please enter the type of your design. is it dxf - svg - other?

with right click on the purple projection lines you can select "loosen link". after that the lines are blue and completely free to manipulate.

Both files appear to be normal, one empty sketch with an error.

What is it you can't do?

I need to attach fittings to the shafts. eg. the metal collar shown by one of the arrows. To do this I need to reference geometry from the shafts but I cannot project the shaft on to the plane in my design. Attached is the plan with items marked with red arrows.

hi - @Anonymous   you have to unlock the body see picture. right click and unlock.

your outer contours are not straight / flat so you cannot click them directly. an offset plane is the solution. see image. but if you project a surface onto it and do it with a combination of "it will work."

@Anonymous projecting is probably possible with a 3D contour.

Thank you for your replies and help. Unfortunately I have not had time to try them out. I will let you know how I get on when I do.
