probably stupid question about copy paste

When I want to make a copy of a component and modify the second copy, but not the original, how do I unlink the two copies?

I know this is probably obvious. But I am stuck for some reason.

Anyone out there who can take a second to give me a pointer?

You use copy/paste new instead of copy/paste

@Anonymous

If its showing up as linked after you copy it then right click on the component and select break link.

If you're working with Capture History on, after making a copy you can't break the link, only option is delete and Copy\Paste New as @TrippyLighting suggested. If you have record history off you can use Make independent to break the link.
