Precisely move a component

I can move a component a relative distance. But I want to move a component like this: I want to move a specific point on the component to a specific point on another component. Is the only way to do this to make a joint?

Hi @JetForMe,

The Move command has a Point-to-Point feature for performing this kind of movement. See the video below for a demonstration of this; does this work for the move you were attempting?

Thanks,

Jake

Yes, that's perfect, thank you!

I imported a STEP file of a C-clip. It has a point at its center, but I can't select that point for the Move Point to Point operation, because as soon as I move off of the actual component, it no longer displays all the selectable points (when you hover over a component, it highlights the component and all the selectable points). But in this case, there's a point at the center of the (concave) structure, that's not on or within the solid.

I figurd it out. Hover over the first component, hold the Command key (OS X), then you can move to the points without the component deselecting.

Well found 🙂 Yep, bit of a hidden trick, but holding Ctrl/Cmd will select snap points only (while holding Shift will ignore snap faces and ensure face selection).

Glad that worked for you, be sure to let us know if you hit any related issues.

Jake
