Hi, I am not sure whether this is the correct board that I am posting this.

 

I'm new to Fusion 360 and am trying to build a frame from 22.2mm diameter aluminum tube and 3d printed corner joint. The corner joints are where I am having a problem, as I cannot work out how to draw the joining spigots between the top and bottom frames.

 

I have drawn a sphere off 22.2mm and managed to draw the two spigots at 90deg to each other join the sphere but cannot work out how to construct a new plane in order to draw the third spigot at the required angle.

 

Please see the attached.

 

Any help would be appreciated.

Version: Fusion 360, 2.0.7438, Personal

Use a construction line in the base sketch, that would show a top down position.

Use Plane on angle select that construction line, and stand it vertically, within the window.

Create a new sketch on the plane just made,

Project the corner point into the new sketch,

and draw your new line.

You did not specify the angle of the third spigot to the other two.  Sometimes you have to created a new construction plane to use in the construction of the plane you want to sketch on.  If you tell us what angle you want the third spigot, then maybe we can help.  The SVG file is not a lot of help, at least to me.

 

You also have some errors in your timeline concerning missing references.  Watch what you delete.  It is better to Remove or just make invisible.

chrisplyler, Thank you for your reply and the time you have given to explain and produce the video. You have nailed it and saved my hide with this. I need to get these fittings manufactured asap. As I mentioned in the original post I am a complete novice at this Fusion stuff and will keep working at it and hopefully become proficient at it one day.

I did not save the file after I was finished making the video.

 

But it only took me four minutes to make it. It's just two simple sketches, one revolve, and three pipes.

 

You can do it!

Thanks for replying, the help has been amazing and I have managed to produce something. Please have a look at the attached and let me know your thoughts. There may some fun things in the timeline.

 

This took me a lot longer than 4 minutes, but the good thing is I have learnt a lot.

Looks alright to me, except for the fact that your Sketch1 and Sketch2 are not fully constrained. You somehow managed to get DRIVEN dimensions for your angles. The only way I can think that you might have done that is placing the angle dimension twice, in which case the second instance would be a driven dimension, and then deleting the first one that was DRIVING the angle.

 

Also I don't know why you chose to make three more sketches and extrude the spigots instead of simply using the Pipe tool, but it certainly doesn't hurt anything to do it that way.
