Pattern transparency

I was trying to create an image of a glass object with a pattern of color dots on the surface. Tried a custom pattern with color dots from a PNG (PNG allows no background to simulate such a pattern). Unfortunately, Fusion 360 could not properly import that PNG pattern (circular dots showed as rectangles; bug?) while the same image is imported fine as a JPG (but JPG doesn't allow missing background outside of the color dots). I was searching for solutions in YouTube and in forums but could not find any advice about creating transparent patterns on transparent objects. Or maybe there is a different way to achieve the same result? Any advice? (Attached PNG gives a rough idea of what I would like to achieve).

I haven't gotten to really venture too much into the appearance panel yet but here is an attempt anyway:

Thank you, jeevesme. It seems that there is a solution which sounds great.

However, when I tried to reproduce these steps I encountered a strange problem. I used PhotoShop to create a PNG for the appearance and when this PNG is imported into Fusion the pattern is not properly rendered. It seems that the only difference is that you created the PNG in Adobe Illustrator.

Unfortunately, I don't have AI to try. So, to get to the bottom of it I'd be nice to check my PNG in your setup and yours - in mine. I attached mine - I wonder if it causes you trouble. I'd love to try yours too.

Thanks in advance,

Igor.

I tried your file.  It does not work for me either.  So, I tried using Photoshop to produce the png but the exact same thing happens every time.  I've tried various settings and couldn't get it to work.  I would try a different program.  It's weird that Photoshop won't produce a usable png.

Well, at least it's something. It appears that both PNG types (outputs of Adobe Illustrator and Adobe PhotoShop) are likely valid (other programs render them both fine) but Fusion is failing on the PNG from AI. Is there a way to escalate this issue to the Fusion developers?

And, of course, your first reply is a valid solution so I marked it as such. Thanks again.
